Substance To Shadows is our first Black IPA. A style that was really popular 10 or so years ago that’s enjoying a little bit of a resurgence as of late. Historically Black IPA has often been Imperial in execution with ABV often well over 8%. We chose a little more modest 7% ABV for this one. Dark in appearance but with a body and hop profile of something much lighter in color. We went with a pretty classic hop bill foundation of Chinook, Columbus, and Simcoe with the addition of some Citra and Amarillo Cryo in the dry hop. Aromas of chocolate are quickly followed by pine, grapefruit, and stone fruit from the hops. A unique style that we love and a great showcase for some classic American hops.‍ ‍
