At one point in time all beer was smoked beer. Until the first smoke free malt drying machine was patented in 1635 all malt was dried over an open flame. Two breweries in Bamberg Germany have kept the old tradition alive and continue to smoke their malt over an open flame today. This Rauch Marzen is a tribute to those beers. A malt bill consisting of over 70% beechwood smoked pilsner malt gives this dark amber lager a distinct smokey flavor and aroma. Dark amber in color with a bit more body and malt flavor than our Franconian Kellerbier, this smoked Marzen is the perfect beer for the approaching winter months. Incredibly complex yet eminently drinkable.
