PALE LAGER
South German Style Pils
Our Pale Lager has always been brewed to resemble the pils found at breweries in and around Munich. These tends to be a little drier than the pils brewed in the Czech Republic but not nearly as dry and bitter as the pils brewed further north in Germany which is what a lot of what’s called “German Pils” brewed in the US tends to resemble. Personally we feel like the South German executions really strike a great balance of malt flavor and hop character. They’re dry and drinkable without being too bitter or empty. The funny things is people in Southern Germany drink so much Helles that the breweries rarely serve their Pils on tap. It’s usually only available in bottles.
Brewed with a three step mash and a single decoction, fermented slow and cold, and then Krausened with Helles in a horizontal lagering tank for as much natural carbonation as possible. While there’s room for improvement we feel like this is the best version of this beer we’ve brewed to date and we’re excited to share it with you.
