Kölsch

German Style Blonde Ale

Kölsch has been brewed in the German city of Cologne for over 100 years and holds a Protected Geographical Indication within the European Union. It’s a very defined style yet when you go to Cologne Kölsch tends to vary widely between producers. The key element to producing true-to-style Kölsch is the yeast. True Kölsch yeast is known for producing these really delicate white wine or pear like esters that really add a unique twist to a crisp, easy drinking pale bier. We source a unique yeast from a small yeast bank on the east coast that creates these lovely esters and is a little different than the yeasts normally used by most American brewers producing Kölsch. This is our lightest, easiest drinking bier and truly a fan favorite here at Offset.
