Helles
Our second lager of the pale variety is here! We brewed Helles a few times at the old spot and I was never that stoked on any of them. This is the most delicate, naked, hardest to brew style that we attempt here at Offset. It’s a style that’s incredibly simple from an ingredient perspective but is 100% process driven. While the Helles we’ve brewed to date have been fine they really haven’t captured the essence of true German Helles. The best representations of this style combined a touch of sulfur, a hint of hops, and a very unique malt flavor in an incredibly drinkable package. It’s should be a beer that’s easy to have two liters and not think about it at all. But if you want to nerd out on it there’s a ton of complexity, albeit subtle.
This is by far our best attempt at this style to date. All German ingredients, a three step mash plus a single decoction, slow cold fermentation and 6 weeks of lagering in horizontal tanks and natural carbonation. As always there’s still room for improvement but we’re excited to serve this to you and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
