Introducing Eggers Special, a new single hop Pale Ale. Eggers Hops is a small, sixth generation, family run hop farm in the Upper Moutere area of New Zealand. They grow three varieties of hops but their focus is on Riwaka. Riwaka is one of the most amazing hops in the world but it’s also a total pain in the ass to grow. It’s notorious for yielding poorly, poor root growth, and a short life span. Eggers however has embraced Riwaka and worked with it extensively to understand more about it and how to optimize for sustainability, growth, and most importantly flavor and aroma. Eggers Special is a rare variant of Riwaka that was hand selected from over 20,000 specimens. Eggers describes it as Next Level Riwaka and I’d have to say we agree. It displays an incredible range of citrus from lime zest to grapefruit and sweet orange as well as some over ripe tropical fruit and a really unique herbal character that I really don’t know how to describe.
