No Budgie
Modern L IPA
No Budgie is a brand new 5% LiePA brewed in collaboration with the fine folks at Level Crossing. Head Brewer, Chris Detrick, does a fair amount of skiing at DV during the winter and always swings by the brewery to have a beer and talk a little shop while waiting out traffic on h Cs way home. I remember back in the Homebrew days Chris would come to meetings with have some amazing IPAs that often had an Australian hop or two in them. We decided to brew a new 5% IPA for the collab fest and something loaded with the amazing hops from Australia seemed like a no brainer. Since there aren’t any accountants or pesky budgets here at Offset we went ahead and hopped this at a rate we had yet to explore in a 5% beer.
No Budgie is packed to the gills with Galaxy, Vic Secret, and Enigma in the boil, whirlpool, and Dry Hop. The dry hop started with a brand new form of Galaxy called Spectrum that was just released. It’s essentially liquid Galaxy goodness. We then hit it with a sizable dry hop of Vic Secret, Enigma, and a dusting of Nectaron. Big punchy notes of pineapple rind, passion fruit, honeydew and peach with just a touch of red berry from the Tasmanian grown Enigma.
For those that don’t know, Budgie is short for Budgerigar. Budgerigars, or Common Parakeets, are native to Australia. There were no Budgies harmed in the making of this beer.
Budgie…..Budget…. You get the gist.
